NSDAR Membership

What We Do

The Alexandriana Chapter, NSDAR, is dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Below are examples of ongoing activities listed in our three main areas of focus.

Promoting Patriotism

  • Support of the local veterans, at the Veterans Life Center in Butner, North Carolina and at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center
  • Observe Veterans Day and participate in the Veterans Day Parade
  • Recognize outstanding Naval Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) cadets
  • Participate in local patriotic battle commemorations, including the Battle of Cowan’s Ford

Historic Preservation

  • Sponsor grants through NSDAR for Historic Preservation and conservation. Our chapter secured a grant for urgent repairs needed at the historic Hugh Torrance House and Store.
  • Support the National Society for the preservation of NSDAR buildings
  • Participate in local historic programs, tours, and events

Education

  • Promote Constitution Week programs and awareness
  • Participate in Bells Across America on September 17 to honor the signing of the U. S. Constitution
  • Sponsor JROTC Awards to cadets in high schools
  • Sponsor DAR Good Citizens Essays for high school seniors
  • Support Crossnore Communities for Children which serves students in crisis
